Wading through a sea of salty tears
Wandering through a canyon of empty thoughts
Seeking some escape from giant fears
And searching in the forest for the smiles we lost

And years pass by, and we hesitate to cry
For we know we’re bound to die

There can be no other way, and I hear the mourners say
“Events that passed, you had your way . . .
You must pay!”
And as they lower me down
I cry and ask, “Why?”
But “Why?” like any other foolish question
Has no answer
Falling off a cliff of memories
Running down a hill of faces past
Gazing at the sky of things to be
And wondering just how long it’s destined to last
